Matthew 4-18-25 - Bible Study
Matthew 4:18-25
Here is a personal Bible Study of mine
WIS: What it Says…put into my own words, somewhat.
WIT: What I Think…What this passage made me think about
TBV: The Best Verse…I think you got this one
WIS: As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon (aka Peter) and Andrew. They were fishermen who were casting a net. Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they dropped their nets and followed. After leaving there He saw two more brothers, James and John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee preparing the nets. Jesus called to them and immediately they followed.
Jesus went all throughout Galilee teaching in the synagogues, preaching the good news of the Kingdom and healing every disease and sickness amongst the people. News about Him spread all over Syria and people brought to Him those that were ill, suffering from severe pain, demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed. Jesus healed them all. Large crowds from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan began to follow Him.
WIT: Every time I hear the story about the calling of the Disciples, I get amazed and scared. First, I am amazed that Jesus chose ordinary people and not pastors or men that were leaders in the community. That proves even further that Jesus truly loves us all and wants a close relationship with us, no matter who we are. What is even more amazing is that they dropped everything on the spot to follow Him.
Now for the fear, would I stop doing what I am doing to go and follow Him? If Jesus came to me and said for me to stand up from this computer and follow Him, would I? Would you? I am a Christian and love Him whole-heartedly, but honestly think it would take a moment’s thought to give up my entire life that I worked so hard for.
We tend to forget and take for granted that all that we have belongs to God. Our entire lives are His. We need to live as if we are borrowing His lawn-mower. We need to take care of it and use it in the way He intends us to. Then when He is ready to have it back we can’t hide it in our garage and refuse. Looking at life as if we are the custodians of God’s gifts makes us much more appreciative.
TBV: 4:19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
